Obituary for Stephen J. Hedges

Stephen J. Hedges, 72, of West Hartford, CT, beloved life partner of Lorrie Devine, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital. Steve was born in Hartford to his special parents, the late William F. and Rosemary (Morello) Hedges. He lived in West Hartford most of his life and graduated from Hall High School and attended the University of Hartford-Hartt School of Music. Steve worked for his family business, Whalen’s Chair Rental, until his retirement in 2020.

Steve was a talented musician and was passionate about his music activities. Throughout his life he enjoyed singing, playing guitar, and especially playing his keyboard. In high school, he played at many school dances, parties, and social events with the popular Wanderers band. Among his many other musical endeavors, he enjoyed playing keyboard for over 25 years with the Back in Time band. He loved sharing his musical talents to bring happiness to others.

Steve’s daily religious life was very important to him. He enjoyed saying his rosary, attending Mass and praying for family, friends, and all of God’s creation. He attended St. Mark the Evangelist Church in West Hartford for many years and for the last several years was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartford. Both Parishes provided Steve with important religious experiences and wonderful friendships.

Steve was so kind, loyal, compassionate and loving. Steve and Lorrie were almost always together watching over one another. As life partners and best friends, they cherished their life together. Lorrie will miss Steve more than words can express.

Besides Lorrie, Steve is survived by his brother Brian Hedges and his partner Karen L’Heureux and her wonderful family of Meriden, as well as several cousins. Steve also leaves behind his dearest friends, who were like family to him, Ken, Ann and Michelle Bach of West Hartford and many other faithful friends, with special thanks to Ming Angelastro of West Hartford, Chris and Mick D’Arcy of West Hartford and Dan Caron of Bristol for their extraordinary care. Services and burial were private. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 53 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
