Obituary for Sophie Seroka (Tamkun)

Sophie (Tamkun) Seroka, 95, of West Hartford, formerly of Newington and Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late John Seroka, died Saturday, September 10, 2016. Born in Lowell, MA, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Ursula (Giniewicz) Tamkun, she was raised in Poland and returned to the United States in 1958, Sophie lived in Newington and Wethersfield for many years. Sophie was a talent seamstress, loved all sorts of crafts, family parties and gardening, her nickname on her street in Newington was "the flower lady". She was communicant of St. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Prior to her retirement, Sophie was employed at Stanadyne for many years. She is survived by a daughter, Halina Jerardi and her husband Jay of West Hartford; a son, John Lawrynowicz and his wife Joan of Glastonbury; two grandchildren, Crystal and Michael; a great-grandson, Trent and several nieces and nephews. She also is survived by a sister, Jennie Tamkun; a sister-in-law, Stefania Tamkun and her sister, Ola Baszak. Sophie was predeceased by her brothers, John Tamkun and Edward Tamkun. A special thanks to Stasia, who was a loving, care giving companion for over four years to Sophie. Calling hours are Wednesday (Sept. 14), from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Her funeral is Thursday, (Sept. 15), 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford.
