Obituary for Sophie Alves

Sophie Isabella Alves, 15, of Farmington, devoted daughter of Nelson and Margarida (DaCruz) Alves, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Hartford, she was raised in Farmington and was a Sophomore at Farmington High School. In her very short life, Sophie touched so many lives with her infectious smile. She was loved by many for her kindness, strength (#Sophie Strong), dedication, compassion and friendship. Whatever Sophie put her mind to, she accomplished. This came through in her love of magic. She could always be counted on to perform an impromptu card trick. She was also a member of the FHS Band, Girls Basketball, Soccer and Lacrosse teams. Sophie was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and an active participant in the Portuguese School, Youth Group, and OLF Rancho.
Besides her parents she leaves her brother, Cruz Anthony Alves of Farmington, grandmother, Cremilde DaCruz and many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Calling hours will be Thursday, (Dec. 13) from 4 to 8 pm at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, (Dec. 14) 10:00 at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The parents request that if you have a picture with a special memory of Sophie, to please bring it to the wake to display on a memory tree. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CCMC Neuro-Oncology Pediatric Brain Cancer Fund in memory of Sophie.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center for the care given to Sophie, and to their families and friends for their infinite support.
