Obituary for Sarah Jane Buckley

Sarah Jane “Janie” Buckley, 26, of Torrington, CT passed peacefully into God’s loving arms on December 12, 2020 at her home. Sarah was born June 10, 1994 in Manchester, CT and briefly attended Goodwin School before moving to the Torrington area and then attending and graduating from Lewis S. Mills High School in Burlington, CT in 2012.

Sarah was a loving Mommy to her baby boy Lucas 18 months, whom she shared her life and love with alongside her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Mitchell Abela, in Torrington, CT.

Sarah’s love and laughter will be forever missed and mourned by her devoted Momma and best friend, Christine Iacino, and her husband Michael of Beaufort, SC. Her loving Father, Robert Buckley and his wife Cindy of Rocky Hill, CT, her caring and devastated older brothers, Joshua and Zachary Buckley of Rocky Hill and Caleb Buckley and his love Kelsey Svenson of San Diego, CA. She also leaves her wonderful 8-year-old nephew AJ, and her maternal grandparents, Richard and Cynthia Franklin. Sarah also leaves to mourn her; Dawn Abela and Michael Dziubinski, Kaylie Abela, Nicholas Abela, Mario Abela, Grandma Carol and the rest of the Abela Family. In addition to the many relatives and friends who loved her; there is Leanne; her honorary sister who is in the background of all of Sarah’s memories.

As a young girl, Sarah played baseball with her brothers growing up (such a tomboy!) and then on the Harwinton Little League baseball team with Leanne; two of the only 3 girl players in the boy’s league. Sarah played second base position and showed what little girls can accomplish. She also played softball at Lewis Mills HS.

Sarah loved to cook and send pictures of her food to Michael to torture him! She loved to watch Netflix, read, and call her Momma constantly on Duo with Lukey. She loved her job at 99 Restaurant in Torrington and all her friends and customers. She adored the family pets and the kittens she had along the way, but nobody more than Finn, our Goldendoodle, whom she loved fiercely. She was a wonderful friend and always put them before herself. To know Sarah was to love her. She was the life of a party, the apple of her Daddy’s eye, the other half of her Momma’s heart and Michael’s love second to her Momma. She adored her baby Lucas more than anything and she was a loving and nurturing Mother to him. Throughout the years, travels and states, Mitchell and Sarah ended up back together as they were in High School; now he has the most precious piece of her that remains.

Sarah’s sunny, sarcastic, quick-witted light will forever be missed and mourned by everyone who knew her and the world will never be the same without her smile and beautiful blue/gray/green eyes.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be a private memorial service.
Donations in Sarah’s memory can be made out to Mitchell Abela for Lucas’s care.
Thank you to everyone who reached out through messages, texts and pictures-they will be answered in time.
