Obituary for Ruth Porter (Bennett)

Ruth Porter, 91, of West Hartford and New Hartford, wife of the late John Porter died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hartford, on November 2,1923 and lived in West Hartford most all her life.

Ruth was a member of the Elmwood Community Church, and Circle Six for over 77 years. She thoroughly enjoyed participating as both a member and contributing artist with the West Hartford Art League for the last 74 years.

She is survived by three sons Dave Porter of Plainville, Thomas Porter and his wife Melissa of Winsted, Craig Porter and his wife Cynthia and their two children Cody and Christopher of Newington; and a daughter Judy Taylor and her husband Art of Newington. Ruth was predeceased by two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at The Elmwood Community Church, 26 Newington Rd., West Hartford, CT 06110 with interment to follow in the Elmwood Community Church Memorial Garden. A reception will follow the memorial service. Parking is available across the street from the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The West Hartford Art League, 37 Buena Vista Rd., West Hartford, CT 06107; or The Farmington River Watershed Association, 749 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070.
