Obituary for Rosemary Bannon Ostafin

On Sunday February 28, 2021, Rosemary Ostafin, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 81.
Rosemary was born on January 7, 1940 in West Hartford, CT to Raymond and Mary Bannon. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph and later met the love of her life – Edward Ostafin Jr. who she married on October 11, 1958. Together they raised five children, Christine, Edward (III), Lisa, Paula and Robert.

Rosemary’s passion was her children, leading her daughters through Brownies and Girl Scouts and cheering on her sons in baseball. She was a devout Catholic and active in the St. Brigid’s Church community, where she volunteered as CCD instructor and was also a Eucharistic Minister for several years. Rosemary enjoyed a career in the banking industry and was a volunteer for the Hartford Wives Policeman’s Benevolent Association. She and Ed enjoyed playing cards with their life-long friends Al and Sylvia Yeske and Bob and Pat Fabrizi, in addition to other special friendships shared with Tony and Lena Cavana and Rich and Judy MacDonald. Rosemary enjoyed music and was known for her kind and compassionate spirit and gentle ways.

Rosemary passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her seven siblings. She is survived by her husband Ed, her five children and their spouses, thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday March 3, 2021 at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home. There will be an open Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Brigid Church on New Britain Avenue, West Hartford at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 3, followed by burial services at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
