Rose (Rezendes) Melo, 89, of South Windsor, formerly of Hartford and Jamestown, RI, beloved wife of the late Manuel R. Melo, passed away on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, on November 22, 1931, the daughter of the late Joseph Tavares and Maria Jose (Pacheco) Rezendes. Rose emigrated to the US in 1949 and had lived for many years in Hartford and Jamestown, RI, recently moving to South Windsor. Prior to her retirement in 1981, she was employed at the Aetna Insurance Co. and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.
Rose is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Dulce Mello of South Windsor; her daughter, Mary Cecilia Giungi of Surprise, AZ; three grandchildren, Erica Boulay and husband, Daniel of South Windsor, Tommy Mello of Boston, MA, Melissa Giungi of Surprise, AZ, three great-grandchildren, Ava Boulay, Max Boulay, Jorden Giungi; a sister, Nubelia Cabral of Avon, a sister-in-law, Judite Rezendes of West Hartford and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Rose was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Freitas; three sisters; Laura Bettencourt, Maria de Lurdes DeMorais and Laudalina Estrela and three brothers; Joseph Rezendes, Humberto Rezendes and Antonio Rezendes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 26, 2021 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Please Note: Covid-19 regulations for required face masks and social distancing continue to be in effect and will be observed.
