Obituary for Robert M. "Bob" Easdon
Robert M. Easdon, "Bob", a life-long poet and champion of the spirit of conquering addiction, died from complications of the Covid-19 virus on December 26, 2020.
Bob was born in Lawrence, MA on June 1, 1938. He was the son of the late Robert and Catherine (nee Riley) Easdon. Bob grew up in West Warwick, Rhode Island. He graduated from Boston University in 1962, and upon graduating, joined the sales force of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Buffalo, New York. He spent his next years with CG, with his new bride Linda and the wonderful addition of four children, and they were transferred to Rochester, N.Y. They then moved to Barrington, Illinois (with his office in Chicago), and then finally settled in Simsbury Connecticut (with his office in Harford, CT). Bob found sobriety in 1987, and he left Connecticut General and became an independent insurance consultant for the remainder of his insurance career. With his spiritual transformation of sobriety, Bob became active with both AA and the healing of the insidious disease of addiction.
An avid and ardent Boston Red Sox fan, Bob instilled this love of both sports in general and the New England sports triad of the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots, in all four of his children. He coached them in baseball and built a literal sports emporium in the backyard of their early childhood home in Barrington, Illinois. He had a great love of books, poetry and a faith in the human condition that was mirrored in his own spirituality. Two of his favorite poems, that he had penned himself, were Rosebud and Daughters. This transformation of spirit was seen in his own path of sobriety. He was certified as a Spiritual Director with the Spiritual Life Center in Bloomfield, CT. In addition, he served as a hospice volunteer and worked as a facilitator in the Men’s Grace Spiritual Direction. One of the proudest achievements in his life, besides the pride in reflecting on the success and the love of his children, was the fact that he had now (at the time of this writing) spent more years in sobriety than under the influence of alcohol. Through this achievement, he had found the ability to become more spiritually sober and whole, and passed this on to others in need of healing. Rest in peace Bob, rest in peace.
Bob is survived by his ex-wives, Linda Easdon and Diane Easdon; his sister, Janet (James) Jalbert; his four children, Robert Easdon, Jr., Jennifer Mazzocca (Augustus), Chris Easdon, and Matthew Easdon; and his four grandchildren, Jillian Mazzocca, Augustus Mazzocca, Nicolo Mazzocca, and Evelyn Easdon. Bob was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Flynn (late William).
Due to the current pandemic, the services and burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later and determined date.
