Obituary for Robert "Bob" "Bobby" Canny

Robert “Bob” “Bobby” William Canny, 77, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital with his family at his side on April 28, 2023. Robert was born on October 5, 1945 in Hartford to Mary T. “Maureen” (McCaw) Canny and Martin J. Canny. Robert graduated from Conard High School in West Hartford in 1963. Following high school, he joined the Army and served as a medical lab technician. After serving in the Army, Robert did construction work throughout New England until 1975 when he began a 20-year career at Heublein Spirits in Hartford. When Heublein left Hartford in 1995, Robert went back to school and became certified in wastewater management. He then worked for the MDC municipal water company from 1996 until his retirement in 2011.

Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, Reona Canny of West Hartford; his son, Patrick Canny and his wife Nicole and their children, Clare and Lilah of Georgetown, MA; his much loved step-children, Hope Ouellette of Cromwell, Eugene and his wife Cathy Ouellette of West Hartford, Robert and his wife Marcella Ouellette of New Britain and Laurie Majewski of East Hartford; his fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and his older brother, Joseph Canny and his wife Julieanne of Stafford Springs. Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by his beloved sister, Mary (Canny) Grazen. Robert loved to spend time with family, tell jokes and stories, and to sing whenever possible. His Irish song renditions were bar none. In his later years Robert enjoyed gardening and researching his family genealogy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, (May 11) at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Funeral services provided by the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
