Vernile
Robert C. Vernile of Oro Valley, AZ and formerly of Wethersfield and West Hartford passed away in Tucson, AZ on Friday, October 7, 2022, with his wife Cynthia (Cid) and daughter Amy at his side. Son of the late Rocco and Marion Vernile, he was born on October 21,1949 and grew up in the Frog Hollow section of Hartford. He attended the Immaculate Conception School and South Catholic High graduating in 1968.
Bob joined the West Hartford Fire Department in 1972 and retired in 1997. He left behind a reputation of someone to be relied on, as well as someone who might play an occasional prank or two.
Following his retirement, Bob and Cid moved to Oro Valley, AZ where they both made a new life together and both worked primarily for the AZ School for the Deaf and Blind until they retired 8 years ago.
Bob was an avid racquetball enthusiast but rarely could beat Cid when they opposed each other. He also enjoyed showing the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and other unique attractions of AZ to relatives and friends that regularly visited.
Besides his wife Cid, he leaves his loving daughter Amy Stoto and husband Tony of Wethersfield, his son Andy Vernile and wife Stephanie of Wethersfield, his brother William Vernile and wife Sandra of West Hartford, stepdaughters Tammy Zacchera and husband Todd of Granby, Farrah Schultz and husband Mike of Southwick, MA, grandchildren Bella and Joey Stoto, Ashlynn Vernile, Sophie, Jane and Ben Zacchera, Brady and Owen Schultz and his brother-in-law, John Primeau of North Providence, RI. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Vernile Primeau. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Connecticut at a future date. The family requests donations in Robert’s memory may be made to the West Hartford Fire Fighters Scholarship Fund, 2458 Albany Ave. West Hartford, CT 06117.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Casa De La Luz Hospice at the Hacienda for their kind care of Bob during his final days and for their support of family members.
