Obituary for Robert "Bob" D. Lunden

Robert “Bob” D. Lunden, 94, of West Hartford, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Bob grew up in the Elmwood section of West Hartford and came back after attending college to live, raise a family and work in town. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan; his daughter, Patricia and her husband David King of Glastonbury, CT; his son, David and his wife Mary of Ashton, MD; his grandchildren, Megan and her husband Matt Dresser, Jennifer, Grace and her husband Nick von Utter, Maeve and Payson; and his brothers-in-law, David Sullivan and his wife Betsy and Kevin Sullivan and his wife Carolyn Thornberry. He is also survived by several cousins and a world of friends. He was predeceased by his father David and mother Meda.

Bob was an accomplished professional photographer. During his many years working from his photography studio in West Hartford Center, he captured important lifetime celebrations for hundreds of wedding couples, school graduates and others. He was especially proud of his decades-long work as the photographer for Miss Porter’s School. Bob was devoted to family, always helping out quietly whenever anyone needed something. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards and other games with friends, duck pin bowling, lawn bowling, and family cookouts where he almost always won epic croquet battles. Bob loved to travel, enjoying time at the beach, numerous Taulk tours, with a special fondness for Cape Cod and Williamsburg. He was also known to enjoy hot dogs and beans every Monday, as well as a good Tanqueray and tonic from time to time. He was a longtime member of the West Hartford Rotary Club where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his service. He was active in the Fernleigh Lawn Bowling Club where he served as president and taught lessons to new members. He was a lifelong member of the Elmwood Community Church where he served on many boards and committees as well as church Moderator. As his children say, “Everybody liked Bob” for his heart of gold and great good will to all.

Arrangements are being handled by the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Interment services will be private, but a Memorial Service will be held at the Elmwood Community Church at a later date.
