Obituary for Patti Murphy

Patti Murphy, 70, of Meriden, died Monday, June 7, 2021, at the MidState Medical Center. The daughter of the late Joseph E. Murphy, Jr., and Shirley (Ivers) Murphy, Patti graduated from Platt High School and was a proud life-time resident of Meriden. She enjoyed serving Meriden in numerous ways, including serving on the School Building Committee for 26 years and counting ballots in elections, and she had many friends throughout the city. In 1981, after working at Northeast Utilities for several years, Patti found her professional home at the law firm of Shipman & Goodman in Hartford. For the next 36 years, Patti served as the main receptionist at the firm, and anyone who had the opportunity to work with her knows that she enjoyed every day of it. Patti liked to talk, and her desk was a place where staff, attorneys, and clients alike could be found having conversations about the firm, local happenings, pop culture, politics, and the many other topics on which she was sure to have an opinion. The attorneys, staff, and their families were an extended family for her, and she treasured the relationships she made there over her 37 years.

Patti was equally as devoted to her family, and she is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Ann Murphy of West Hartford; a nephew Peter J. Murphy and his wife, Becki, of West Hartford; and a niece, Joanne Toussaint and her husband, Bill, of East Longmeadow, MA. Patti was affectionately called "Great" by Brynn, Megan, and Brendan Murphy, and Leah and Luke Toussaint, her great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she loved dearly.
