Obituary for Nina Orsini (Schiavone)

Nina Mary Orsini, 95, of West Hartford, passed surrounded by her family and love on Thursday, March 11th. Nina is survived by her beloved children, her son John Orsini and his wife Vivian of Rocky Hill, and her daughter, Joanne Bonino, and her husband Steve of Unionville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Orsini of Shelton, CT Nick Bonino and his wife Lauren of Edina, MN, and Ally Bonino and her husband Colby Moore of Manhattan, NY. Nina also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Maisie and Isobel Bonino. Nina was born a nurturer. She often said her greatest joy in life was raising her family which, if she had the chance, she would do all over again. The love she had for her family was immeasurable, and we, in turn, loved her more than words could possibly express. You could not enter her home, or more appropriately her kitchen, without her offering you something to eat. Multiple times. And if you left hungry, that was your own fault. And you didn’t want to leave hungry because her food was just that incredible and seasoned with all of the love. Nina worked at various jobs throughout her life, including being the office manager at Lux Bond and Green, and also took particular pride in the years she worked as a clerk for the Federal Courts in Hartford. The family would like to thank all of the home health workers, specifically Silvia and her darling Chevel, whom she lovingly referred to as ‘Toots’, who took such great care of Nina when she needed it most and to the gracious, gentle, and giving team from Seasons Hospice who went to incredible lengths to keep her comfortable in these last few weeks. The hole left in our hearts with this loss feels insurmountable, but we take comfort in knowing that our sweet Neens was welcomed home with the open and ready arms of her four sisters, her parents, and her dearest Jimmy who have been waiting so patiently for her.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Brigid Church, 1088 New Britain Ave, West Hartford CT, 06110, on Wednesday, March 17th at 10AM, social distancing rules apply for everyone’s safety, burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org. Nina was a fighter through and through and fought to stay with us until the very end. Rest well, our sweet Neens, and know that we will love you and keep you in our hearts forever. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
