Nancy Jane Mitchell, 86, long-time resident of West Hartford, passed away on March 20, 2024. Her husband of 66 years, Donald Clark Mitchell was by her side.

Born on October 11, 1937, in Hartford, CT to Dorothy and Edward Clough, Nancy grew up in Hartford and attended Our Lady of Sorrows School. Nancy’s family then moved to Bloomfield as they welcomed younger brother, Craig. After graduating from Bloomfield High School, Nancy attended Fenner Business School. Nancy met her devoted husband, Donald, on a blind date that friends had arranged, married in 1958 and then settled in Windsor to raise their three adoring sons before moving to West Hartford in 1982. Nancy worked within the home until her three boys began their college years. During this time, Nancy held several Executive Assistant positions with companies in the Hartford area before retiring from Cigna.

Attending her grandchildren’s school, dance, and sporting events were a favorite pastime, most recently being the O’ Hartford 5K Race on March 17, 2024. Despite the wind and cold, Nancy insisted on being there to see two of her grandchildren cross the finish line. Nancy’s kind, gentle, and soft-spoken manner made anyone around her feel welcomed and comfortable. Nancy’s life-long love of roses & orchids over the years dates to the many outings spent visiting in Elizabeth Park beginning with her mother and grandmother as a child. Be it Rose Weekend, summer concerts, picnic lunches with Don and their beloved Australian Labradoodle Lily.  Elizabeth Park Rose Garden was a favorite. Together with Don, Nancy had a passion for music and the performing arts. They attended special performances in NYC, local jazz concerts and her most recent outing to attend Bowzer’s Musical Review at Mohegan Sun Casino this past January. Nancy also liked traveling to Maine, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and the cities and towns her sons lived in.

Besides her beloved husband Donald Mitchell, Nancy leaves behind Martha Mitchell of Richmond, VA, wife of the late Ronald Mitchell; and her sons, Jeffrey Mitchell and his wife Colleen of West Hartford, CT and Bryan Mitchell and his wife Kim of Larchmont, NY. Nancy was always a kind, loving, and supportive Grandmother to Alexandra Mitchell and Collin Mitchell of Richmond, VA, Nathan Mitchell and his wife Emily of Simsbury, CT, Olivia Mitchell of New York, NY, Abigail Mitchell of West Hartford, CT, and Audrey Mitchell and Grace Mitchell of Larchmont, NY. In 2022 Nancy welcomed her very first great grandchild, William Finlay Mitchell. She also leaves behind her brother, Craig Clough and his wife Chris of Springfield, VA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Nancy was pre-deceased by her son Ron in December 2020.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, where Nancy attended Mass regularly.
