Obituary for Mary Frith (Ney)

Mary Ney Frith passed away peacefully on March 19, 2020 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut. Raised in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, Mary was the oldest of three siblings. She attended Archbishop Ryan School and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, and moved to Connecticut following her marriage to Edward Frith in 1964.
Before moving to Connecticut, Mary worked as a keypunch operator for the Stetson Hat Company. She was employed as a Residential Advisor at the American School for the Deaf from 1975 until her retirement in 1997.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed ice-skating, skiing, and was an avid reader of biographies. Always modest about her talents, she will be well-remembered for her mastery of numerous artistic mediums. She was an oil and watercolor painter, a miniaturist, potter, tailor, seamstress, wedding cake decorator, calligrapher, and dressmaker. One of her favorite activities was troubleshooting crafting dilemmas for her friends in the Ladies Crafting Group, of which she was a member for 35 years.

Mary served for 19 years as President of the Hartford Chapter of the International Catholic Deaf Association. For her many years of volunteer service, she was awarded the National ICDA Member of the Year in 1986, and the Golden Hands Award for Outstanding Service in the Deaf Community by the Connecticut Association of the Deaf in 1997.

Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Edward George Frith, brother Francis Ney, sister Margie Sramek; two children, David Edward Frith (Lynn Christinat Frith) of Granby, Connecticut and Rosemary Frith Crumley (Scott Curtis Crumley) of Ellicott City, Maryland; and six grandchildren, Carter, Ryan, and Caroline Frith of Granby, Connecticut, and Caitlin, Seth, and Allison Crumley of Ellicott City, Maryland.

A memorial service is being planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Connecticut Retirement Community, Inc.
