Obituary for Martha T. Lombardi

Martha T. (Williams) Lombardi, 100 years of age, peacefully flew with her angels on February 24, 2017. Born Sept 16, 1916, the daughter of Martin and Martha Williams and the widow of John Lombardi who passed away in 1963. She was also pre-deceased by her 2 year old daughter Mary Jane and her brothers Frank and Bill and her sisters Eve and Ann. Martha raised her 6 children in the frog hollow section of Hartford. She is survived by 1daughter Marti and partner Larry Greenlee of The Villages FL.; and 5 sons: Jack and his wife Laverne of Anniston AL; Tom and partner Sue Besawof Newington; Bill and partner Mary Davis of Cromwell; Mike and his wife Candy of Hartford; Jim and partner Linda Kime of Farmington and Venice FL. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. As her family grew older, Martha went to work for the Hartford National Bank and later the State of Connecticut. She served years volunteering her time in many political arenas. That was where she met her friend and companion the late Jerry Driscoll of West Hartford, whom she shared many happy years with. She had a loving passion for painting and writing poetry and of course the Boston Red Sox (even though the rest of her family were Yankee fans) knowing every player and hardly ever missing a game on TV. One of her biggest pleasures was spending her birthdays with friends and family on Block Island, getting to be a co-pilot on many flyovers. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all her care givers at The Jefferson House in Newington and The Retreat in Hartford for treating her like family and making her happy and comfortable. Funeral procession will be Tuesday, (Feb. 28), 9:15 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Monday, (Feb. 27), from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
