Obituary for Marie Florinda Reis ((Joaquim))

Marie Florinda (Joaquim) Reis, 85, of Rocky Hill, daughter of the late Manuel Joaquim and Maria Jose do (Espirito Santo) Joaquim, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. Florinda was born on March 25, 1936 in Sazes da Beira, Seia, Portugal. She came to the United States in 1947 at the age of 11 years old. She lived in Frog Hollow Hartford for 32 years, until she moved to Rocky Hill in 1979. As a youngster, she worked on tobacco farms and later on at Carling Electric and Arrow, Hart & Hegeman. Florinda was one of the first parishioners of Our Lady of Fatima Church, when the masses were held at St. Peter's Church on Main St., in Hartford, before the first Church on Russ St.

She will be remembered for her kindness and love of flowers. As well for her cooking, especially on the 4th of July and Christmas celebrations for her family and friends. Florinda and her husband enjoyed traveling and have visited all 50 states, 25 different countries across 5 different continents.

She is survived by her husband and best friend, Amador Reis, sharing 62 years of marriage, She is also survived by her son, Paul Manuel Reis of East Hartford, her daughter, Christine Marie Reis-Pereira and her husband, John Pereira of East Hartford; her son, Frederick Joaquim Reis and his wife, Karen of Rocky Hill; a grandson Justin Santos and his fiancé, Nicole Wheeler; a granddaughter, Danica Reis and step-grandchildren, Alissa and Caspin Pereira. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Fernanda Joaquim; her nieces, Isabel, Nazare, Leonore, Elizabeth and her dear friends, Sabina, Robert, Jasmine and Alexa, whom she provided childcare for.

Funeral procession will be Tuesday,(June 8), 9:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
