Maria Rita Lavado Galo, 89, formerly of Hartford, beloved wife of the late Fernando Ferreira Galo, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2018 surrounded by her son and daughter-in-law, Ezequiel L. Galo and Victoria A. Cole-Galo and her niece, Melissa Hickey.
Born in Mira de Aire, Portugal, she was the youngest daughter of seven sisters and seven brothers. Maria and her son emigrated to the United States in 1968 and was employed at St. Francis Hospital and Aetna Ins. Co.
Maria Rita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ezequiel L. Galo and Victoria A. Cole-Galo of Berlin; her grandsons, Jonathan Galo and his wife, Alicia, and, Nicholas Galo and his wife, Sara. She also leaves a brother, Joao Lavado Moco of Brazil; a niece, Ana Maria Lavado of Portugal; and many cousins and family members whom she blessed with love and light.
The funeral procession will take place on Tuesday, October 16 at 9:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Calling hours will be Monday, October 15, from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portuguese Club of Hartford, Inc.
