Obituary for Maria Jesus Carreira

Maria Carreira, 90, of Glastonbury, died peacefully Monday morning December 5, 2022, at St. Francis Hospital after several years of battling lung cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jose M. Carreira. She was born on December 23, 1931, in Reguengo do Fetal, Portugal, daughter of the late Ildefonso do Rosario Rebelo and Maria de Jesus Rebelo. Maria retired from Manchester Hospital, having worked in the housekeeping department in the maternity section for 25 years. Maria was known to many as a kind and caring person who was always willing to help others. She especially loved watching her great-grandchildren grow up. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.

Maria is survived by her children, Clidia C. Espirito Santo and husband Jack of Glastonbury, Jose M. Carreira of Hartford; her grandchildren, David Espirito Santo (Elsa), Neil Espirito Santo (Cindy), Jennifer Ware (Joshua), Sabrina Wentworth (Jason), and Vanessa Coan (Caleb) and eight great-grandchildren, Leila, Lola, Catarina, Jose, Juliana, Scarlett, Olivia and Curtis. She is also survived by her siblings, Aurora Martins of Windsor Locks and Antonio Rebelo of Vancouver, BC. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Manuel J. Rebelo and three sisters, Emelia Correia, Rosalina Da Silva and Cesaltina Matheus.

A funeral procession will be Thursday, (December 8) at 10:30 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Seven Day Mass will be 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, (December 11) at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
