Maria Alcina (Canto) Candeias, 79, of West Hartford, beloved wife of 56 years to Joao Maria Candeias, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 6, 2019. Born in Acores, District of Guarda, Portugal, she came to Hartford in 1966. She retired from CIGNA. Maria Alcina was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford and was a very active member of the Hartford Portuguese Club and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was well known for her great crochet talent.
Besides her husband, she leaves her daughter, Maria Joao DeLucco and her husband, Paul; her son, Victor Manuel Candeias and his girlfriend, Julie Smoliga; her grandchildren, Michael and Alyssa DeLucco. She is also survived by her sisters, Judy Rezendes, Ceu C. Rodrigues, Antonia Canto Ferreira; her brother, Armindo R. Canto and many nieces and nephews too many to mention, who all adored her. She was predeceased by a brother, Jose Rodrigues Canto.
The funeral procession will be Wednesday, (April 10), 9:00 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.
