Obituary for Manuela C. Medeiros Aguiar

Manuela C. Medeiros Aguiar, 64, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Augusto Aguiar passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at St Francis Hospital surrounded by family. Born In Lourenço Marques, Moçambique on December 2, 1958, where she lived with her family until emigrating to São Miguel, Açores in 1975 and later joining family in the U.S. in 1976, where she resided always in the Hartford area. She was best known as Nela, or as her nieces called her “Miminha”; where even others adapted to calling her that. She loved those who were dear to her wholeheartedly, giving all she could to be there and often putting others' needs above her own. One of her favorite pastimes was watching soccer and her cherished team Benfica, which no one could say anything negative about. A special place for her to go was George’s in Hartford for her favorite pizza. When Nela was passionate about something, you would know, as she never held back on sharing her opinions. Nela was employed by Data Mail Inc for 47 years, until recent weeks. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, a Founder and member of The Holy Ghost Portuguese Society, also having served on their committee of directors over the years alongside her close family.

Besides her late husband, Nela is predeceased by her parents, João and Maria Rosa Medeiros. Nela is survived by her dear sister, Ada M Costa and her husband Eduardo of Newington. In addition to her sister, she leaves behind her admired nieces; her goddaughter, Melissa Costa of Newington and Jennifer C. Lebron and husband Ivan of Windsor; her loving stepson, Roberto Aguiar; and her most recent treasure, Sophia Lebron. Alongside them, she leaves her uncle and godfather, Laureano Medeiros; her aunt, Elvira DaCosta, her cherished cousin Reinaldo Amaral, whom she lovingly helped care for his departed parents; her fond friends, Veronica and Fabian with their precious “Mellis” Alex and Gusty; and several other cousins and friends spanning in the U.S, Canada, Portugal, England and Argentina.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, (August 16), from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford.
