Obituary for Lucrezia Santina Battistone (Albano)

Lucrezia Santina (Albano) Battistone, 92 of West Hartford, passed away on Monday (August 23,2021). Loretta as she was known by many, was born in Hartford on March 27, 1929 to the late Marie (Barone) and Rocco Albano. She grew up on Capital Avenue and attended Parkville and Hartford Public Schools. Her career spanned from her first job at Newberry’s, to then include Aetna Fire, Pratt & Whitney, Stone Haven, Friendly’s, Diamond Lumber and finally retiring from Battiston Cleaners. She was happiest when doing for others, dancing, and spending time with those closest to her heart. Loretta was devoted to her family. They were most important to her. She loved her children dearly, but that love surpassed to her grandchildren. She was known as the Traveling Grandmother. Each week as they were growing up, she would go from house to house to help in caring for them, while her adult children and their mates were balancing careers and families. The bonds that each of those seven grandchildren had with her will remain throughout eternity. Those who knew her were blessed.

Loretta was a past president and active member of the Saint Anthony Society. She was an active member at both the New Park Avenue and West Hartford/Elmwood Senior Centers. Her heart was big and she always put others before herself. She also participated in the local Breakthrough for the Aging program, as a Friendly Volunteer. Loretta was a parishioner of Saint Mark’s Church in West Hartford. It is a comfort to our hearts and a joy to know, she is in heaven today because of her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, her Savior.
Loretta is survived and cherished by her children, LuAnn (Gary) Atwood, Anthony (Elizabeth) Battistone, JoAnn (Gregory) Cote; her former husband and dear friend Andrew J. Battistone; her grandchildren, Anthony Williams, Samantha (Jeremy) Antiuk, Natalie Battistone (Kevin Wade), Uriah (Elisa) Atwood, Nicole Battistone (Ryan Dickens), TJ Williams and Elijah Atwood; her great-grandchildren, AJ, Annalyse, Ace, Alex, Gabriella and Ronan; her special life-long friend Marge Stewart; her bonus daughter Susan Randazzo; her bonus granddaughter Judith Francis; much loved nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father-in-law Andrew J Battistone Sr, her mother-in-law Marguerite Battistone, brother John and sister-in-law Louise Albano, sister Antoinette (Nay) and brother-in-law John Bissonnette, and her nephew Gary Bissonnette.
