Lourdes “titia” Apolonia Goncalves Oliveira DeCastro, 92, of West Hartford, CT, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Antonia Jesus Goncalves DeOliveira and Joao DeOliveira and one of five siblings from Porto Santo, Madeira Island, Portugal. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Fernando DeCastro. Lourdes was a masterful embroiderer who worked for Casa Marghab in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal before accompanying Vera Way Marghab to New York City as her travel companion and personal maid. She later retired from the factory at Colt Industries in West Hartford. Lourdes was an avid gardener, who will be most remembered for her passion for growing hearty vegetables and beautiful flowers. She was well-known by her neighbors for delivering fruit and vegetables and caring meticulously for her lawn yard and garden. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.

Calling hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, on Saturday, October 21, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.
