I had the unique opportunity to "hang with Gpa" one-on-one 1-2 times a week for nearly the last 2 years. This is highly unusual, I imagine, for most daughters-in-law,. We were able to sit and talk about his life, what's going on around the world, what's going on with all of our family members or just relax together in silence. He would kid me about being stubbord or head strong and I would give it right back to him. I had the pleasure of meeting all the people he saw during his daily errunds (the bank teller, the lottery salesperson (Madhu), all the people at AC Petersen's, OLS clergy people and many health care workers who we saw on a repetitive basis. Everyone knew and respected him and loved to shoot the breeze and have a few chuckles with him. He was kind and always injected his dry sense of humor into almost every contact. It was a pleasure to get to know him so intimately at such a time in his life. I'll miss you Gpa!
