Obituary for Lawrence F. Fagan Sr.

Lawrence F. Fagan Sr. of West Hartford, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014 at 88 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Aline (Soucy) Fagan, Larry was born September 7, 1925 to Joseph and Mary Ellen (Lynch) Fagan. A lifelong resident of West Hartford, he was a devoted 88 year parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows Grammar School, Holy Trinity High School and William H. Hall High School. Larry was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Fife and Drum Corps. He also played a variety of sports at Hall High School, excelling at football. His football pursuits continued after high school, playing for the Parkville semi-professional football team of Hartford. Larry also loved going to a place of great peace, the family cabin in Granby for many years. During his time of illness over the past two years, Larry was comforted by the loving care he received while residing in the home of his daughter Jeannine and her husband Bill. Larry was originally a member of the class of 1943 at Hall High School, West Hartford leaving at the age of 17 to serve in the United States Navy in World War II. Larry served on the USS Texas, and was aboard the ship as it supported the Invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day. After the war, he returned to Hall High School, graduating in 1947. Larry again proudly served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway during the Korean War. Larry worked for 40 years as a Data Processing manager for the "Little Aetna" and Connecticut General Life Insurance Company, retiring in the late 1980's. Larry is survived by his five children and their spouses; Marita Eppler (Jack) of Wethersfield, Jeannine Marotto (Bill) of West Hartford, Colleen Clifford (Rick) of Tolland, Larry Fagan Jr. (Susan) of West Hartford, and Amy Clark (Andy) of Northborough, MA. He leaves 13 grandchildren: Molly (Jeremy) Dailey, Nora McHugh, Lauryn, Timothy (Alicia) and Kevin (Alissa) Marotto, Courtney and Alex Clifford, Raymond, Claire and Noel Fagan, Audrey, Deidre and Joshua Clark. Larry also leaves 7 great-grandchildren: David, Vanessa, Hunter, Emma, Ian, Samuel and Lilah. He took great pride in being a G-Pa to all twenty of these loved children. He is also survived by his sister Frances Bonvouloir of Syracuse, New York, and sisters-in-law Sr. Marita Soucy, CSJ of West Hartford, and Claire Desrochers and husband Bob of Fairbanks, Alaska. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his wife Aline after 39 years of marriage, his brothers James and Joseph, and a special nephew Joseph Fagan III. Larry wants to thank everyone who is part of the AC Petersen family, and let them know that he always cherished the friendships he developed with the many people there. Remember that he gets his senior discount and takes his pancakes thin. Larry also wants to thank all others who came into his life for either a brief time or for many years, and he will keep them all in his heart. Among these, he leaves dear friends Mary Birbeck and Bill Cannon. Finally, Larry wants to send one last word to his sister Fran: Hillary in 2016! Larry and Aline are headed out to a great crystal lake to relax for a while, and then he will be sitting on the great veranda in heaven with his entire heavenly family during the funeral services. They certainly will consider all of life's requests, but remember we have a large needy family and the requests may be unusually large at times. Larry's family would like to greatly thank the staff at St. Francis Hospital for their caring and compassionate help during his time there. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 79 New Park Avenue, Hartford, everyone is asked to meet directly at Church.
