Obituary for Joseph D. Sullo

Joseph "Joe" D. Sullo, born October 25 1931 to the deceased Anthony Sullo and Theresa (Francolini) Sullo, married to Peggy (Hewett) Sullo of Cromwell died peacefully on April 26, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital. Joe was a vibrant, charming man who embraced life fully with passion in all he did whether working on a renovation or farm project, entertaining, or sharing his faith His welcoming smile and easy manner made everyone feel listened to and important. Joe was blessed with a strong loving marriage to his predeceased wife, Eleanor, "Ellie" of 60 years. They resided in Colchester, CT with their children and grandchildren for thirty-eight years.
In June 2016 Joe moved to Covenant Village in Cromwell, CT. Here he met Peggy Hewett Sullo whom he was fortunate to marry on April 7 2018 - a testament to them both for embracing life and love.
He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 followed by an honorable discharge with the rank of Sergeant. After 35 years with the Travelers Insurance Company, he retired in 1992 as 2nd Vice President of Building Operations.
He was predeceased by his son Donald Sullo.
He is survived by his son Christopher Sullo and wife Elizabeth of Colchester, his daughter Lynore Williams and husband David of Amston. He is lovingly known as “Papa” to his grandchildren; Valerie Elcott and husband Ahmed, Michael Sullo, Peter Sullo, Matthew Williams and wife Keliy, Jason Williams and wife Molly, Erin Williams and husband Ben, Lauren Levi and husband Naor; and great-grandchildren: Madeleine, Simon, Finnian, Djuna, Alexandra, Mara and Scarlett. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Frances Sampeck and sister-in-law Kathleen Sampeck as well as numerous friends and family.

Calling hours will be Thursday, (May 3) from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, (May 4) at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford CT. Interment will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
