Jose “Joe”/“Ze” Frederico Almeida Carranquinha, 73, son of the late Pedro e Maria da Luz Almeida Carranquinha, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford.

Jose was born on January 25, 1949, in Amadora, Portugal. He came to America in 1967 and resided in Hartford for many years before moving to East Hartford 25 years ago. He was retired from Pratt & Whitney where he worked for many years. Jose was a member of the Hartford Portuguese Club, the Casa do Benfica of Hartford and the grupo Secos e Molhados. Jose was an easy-going person and will be missed by his family and friends.

Jose is survived by a brother, Pedro and his wife Fernanda Carranquinha of Portugal; a niece, Monica, her husband Joao Marques and children Rita Marta and Paolo of Portugal; an uncle and godfather, Manuel Reis of Portugal; an aunt and godmother, Primavera Coelho of Newington and an uncle Amador Reis of Rocky Hill; cousins, Cristina, husband Carlos Pereira and their children of Portugal,  Paul Reis, Christine and John Pereira, Fred, Karen and Danica Reis, Luis Felipe and Justin Reis Santos. Jose is also survived by his special friends Jack and Janete Santos, Alzira Carvalho and Ermelinda Santos, Allen Nunes, Robert and George Santos and all the members of grupo Secos e Molhados. Besides his parents, Jose was predeceased by an uncle, Luis Coelho and his aunts, Auzenda Reis and Florinda Reis.

Calling hours will be Friday, September 16, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. The funeral service is private.
