Jose Carlos Rodrigues, 80, of Hartford, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Born in Santa Cruz, Madeira, Portugal, on October 1, 1938 to the late Jose and Maria Rodrigues, he moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil with his aunts and uncles in 1954 at age 15 and immigrated to the United States with his wife and elder daughter in the fall of 1967. He worked for King’s Construction and later retired from Hanson Whitney where he worked as a machine set-up operator. He was predeceased by his loving wife of forty-four years, Neide de Fatima Machado Rodrigues of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was the beloved father of Lucilene "Luci" Rodrigues of Hartford, Claudia M. Rodrigues of Rocky Hill, Carla Machado Poyant and his son-in-law, Rene Poyant of Cape Cod, MA. He also is survived by a granddaughter, Ariana Rodrigues-Juarbe of Hartford, and three grandsons, Nathaniel Poyant of Cape Cod, MA and Forest and Mountain Rodrigues of Rocky Hill. Surviving siblings include a brother, Fernando Rodrigues and sister-in-law, Deolinda of Santa Clara, CA, a sister, Laura Ferreira of West Hartford, a sister, Libania Alves and brother-in-law, Tony of Concord, CA, a sister, Maria Madelena Chmeliwskyj and brother-in-law, Paul of Rocky Hill, a brother, Abel Roderick and sister-in-law, Sue of New Mexico; a brother-in-law, Ferdinando Pereira of Sao Paulo, Brazil and a sister-in-law Lizeti Machado also of Sao Paulo, Brazil; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jose was predeceased by a sister, Maria Pereira and a brother-in-law, Jose Carlos Machado.
Funeral Service will be Monday, (October 22), 7:00 pm, at the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
