John C. Pereira, 82, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Maria da Luz Pereira, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Born on June 23, 1941 in Valmaior, Portugal, to the late Manuel and Belarmina (Correia) Pereira, John immigrated to the United States and has resided in the Hartford area since 1966. He worked as a machine operator for the Sims Metal Management Company in Hartford. John retired in 2004 after 40 years. He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a member of the Hartford Portuguese Club, the Hartford Portuguese Soccer Team Casa do Benfica and the East Hartford Sportsman’s Club.

John is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Christine Pereira of East Hartford, CT; his grandchildren, Alissa Pereira of Orlando, FL, Cas Pereira of South Windsor, CT and Justin Santos of Rocky Hill, CT; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Manny and Lina Pereira of Berlin, CT, Belmiro Pereira of Danbury, CT and George and Maria Pereira of West Hartford, CT; and his sisters and brother-in-law, Aurora and Carlos Pereira of Wethersfield, CT and Maria Nogueira of Berlin, CT. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Besides his beloved wife and parents, John was predeceased by his infant son and his daughter, Maria do Ceu.

Calling hours will be Sunday, February 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 26, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
