Obituary for Jeannine (Mathieu) Fournier

Jeannine (Mathieu) Fournier, 89, of Newington and East Hartford, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023.

Born in Beauceville, Quebec, Canada, Jeannine was the daughter of the late Omer Mathieu and Delia Bolduc.

Her vivacious spirit and quick wit will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Jeannine will be remembered by her daughters, Carol Ann Keena and her husband Kevin, and Paula Dockery; she was “Memere” to her five grandchildren, Kristopher James Keena and his wife Erin, Kara Elizabeth Keena, Shana Marie Dockery and her fiancé Michael Ambrosi, Kelsey Lynn Keena and Sean Brian Dockery; her two great grandchildren Cruz Joseph and Beckham James Keena; her brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Jeanne d’Arc Mathieu; her two loving nieces Linda Leon and her husband Alex and Julie Jacques and her husband Donald; and all of her nieces and nephews and their families.

Jeannine is greeted in heaven by her beloved husband, Roger Fournier; late second husband Rosaire "Pepere Joe" Vigue; her 12 brothers and three sisters including her best friend Frances Vigue who recently passed on July 20, 2023.

Jeannine moved to the United States at twenty-one years of age where she embraced the American dream and became a naturalized citizen. Her unparalleled work ethic led her to a lifetime of career achievements. Ultimately retiring from Travelers Insurance Company. After retirement, she was an active member of her community volunteering at many organizations.

She enjoyed spending time gathered around the card table in a room filled with laughter and storytelling. Memere was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader on their respective fields of play. She looked forward to vacations, baking her signature chocolate chip cookies, trying her luck at the casino and keeping up with the UCONN Huskies and Boston professional sports.

She was an angel on earth but angels are meant to fly.

The family asks you join them in celebrating Jeannine’s giving spirit by making a donation to Meals on Wheels where she devoted years of service -www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org or mail P.O. Box 791568, Baltimore, MD 21279-1568.
