Obituary for Idalina "Lina" Rosa DeJesus

Idalina "Lina" Rosa DeJesus, 82, of West Hartford, passed away on October 19 2023, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous long battle with lung cancer.

Idalina was born on October 12, 1941 in Valemaior, Portugal to the late Etelvina Rosa DeJesus and Manuel Jorge DaSilva. She was the beloved wife of the late Vasco Tavares DeJesus for 51 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked for over 40 years at Magnetic Corporation as a machine operator. Before immigrating her family to the United States she was a seamstress in Valemaior, Portugal. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford, Connecticut.

Idalina was the sweetest, compassionate, and most loving person you could ever meet. She cared deeply about others no matter the hardships she was facing. She enjoyed spending her time gardening, nurturing her plants and creating a beautiful oasis in her backyard. Her green thumb was admired by all who visited her home. She loved enjoying her hot summer days at the beach surrounded by family. On chilly days, she enjoyed sitting in warm clothing knitting and making beautiful throw blankets for all. She had a passion for all animals, predominantly her cat, Lila, which she leaves behind. Above all, she enjoyed spending her time with her adored grandchildren.

Idalina was a devoted mother, survived by her two daughters, Sara Portal and husband Jose Portal of West Hartford, and Sidonia Holley and her husband Scott Holley of North Granby. Idalina was a loving grandmother to her four grandchildren, Sabrina Portal, Anthony Portal, Vanessa Holley and Adrianna Holley. She is survived by her sister, Alice Tavares of New Britain, her brother Joao DaSilva of Valemaior, Portugal and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford, CT with the burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT.
