Obituary for Helena Maria Mendes

Helena M. Mendes, 62, of Glastonbury, departed this life peacefully after a long illness on Friday, February 8, 2019 to join her beloved parents Carlos and Maria Nazare Mendes and cherished godson and nephew Brandon Loura.
Helena was born on December 7, 1956 in Hartford, Connecticut. She attended Hartford schools and worked at M.H. Rhodes of South Windsor for many years as a buyer and inside sales. She had a generous heart and tremendous sense of humor, loved playing practical jokes on her family and friends. In her younger, healthier days, Helena loved dancing, traveling, being the chauffeur to her baby sister Nazare and cousin Christine as they sang all the way down to Old Lyme on a Friday night using the dashboard as a drum set and whatever was hanging on the mirror as a cymbal for a weekend of sun, fun and family time or taking Mom to her daily grocery run or weekend road trips.
Leaving to mourn her loss is her sister Nazare Mendes Loura and life partner Joseph Baddeley of Glastonbury; sister Izabel Galo and Ezequiel of Conroe, Texas; nephew Erik Loura and Ashley Rodrigues of Wallingford; niece Sandra Galo Sanso and Adrian of Mallorca, Spain; nephew Ezequiel Galo and Stacey of Conroe, Texas; loving Godparents Amador and Florinda Reis of Rocky Hill; Aunt Fernanda Joaquim of East Hartford; Aunt Carma Lages and husband Jose of Portugal; a host of many family members and friends, especially long time friends Ann Griskus and Jackie Griffin. Helena was also predeceased by her uncles Joseph Joaquim and Adelino Mendes. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her long time caregivers Roxanne and Migdalia for their help, company and friendship.
Funeral procession will be Thursday, (Feb. 14), 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be prior to the funeral procession from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home.
