Obituary for Geraldine "Gerry" Murphy (Meskill)

Geraldine (Meskill) Murphy of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late William P. Murphy, died Saturday, August 22, 2015, surrounded by her four loving sons. Born in Hartford, she resided in West Hartford for over 50 years. She was a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church, West Hartford. She retired from the MDC, and enjoyed her career and the friendships she made there. Gerry was the loving and proud mother of her sons and daughters-in-law, William P. Murphy of Houston, TX, Robert M. and Karen Murphy of Farmington, Daniel J. and Alison Murphy of West Hartford and Peter G. and Romey Murphy of Simsbury. Her loving support and active involvement in their lives was a cherished blessing. When she was not selflessly helping her sons and daughters-in-law, “Nan” was doting on her six adored grandchildren: Ryan and Meghan Murphy of Farmington, Christian and Anderson Murphy of West Hartford, and Owen and Alara Murphy of Simsbury. Gerry’s appreciation for her Irish heritage and her strong work ethic were traits that she passed down to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren will forever remember her attendance at every game, school play, dance recital and milestone. Her love, kindness and thoughtfulness were a blessed constant in their lives. Gerry leaves her siblings, her brother Brendon Meskill of Naples, FL, Margaret Zangari of Wethersfield, Marilyn Beckerman of West Hartford, and Louise Wennerberg of West Hartford. In November, 2014 Gerry was predeceased by her adored husband of 62 years. Additionally, a brother Jack Meskill and a sister Mary Alice Meskill predeceased her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, (August 27), 10:00 AM at St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Everyone one is requested to meet at the Church. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, friends may honor her memory by making a donation to a charity of their choice. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com.
