Obituary for Fumie Miyoshi Nunan

Fumie Miyoshi Nunan, 89, of Perkiomenville, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. She was the wife of John A. Nunan, Jr. with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in Beppu, Japan she worked as a dispatcher for the Kanko Taxi Company and as tour guide for the Kamenoi Tour Bus Company, entertaining passengers with songs during tours of the hot springs of Beppu. It was at this time she met her husband, while he was stationed at Camp Chickamauga after the occupation.

Fumie was employed by the Mistee Lingerie Company and Spring Ford Knitting Company before retiring in the early 90’s. During the years following her retirement, she attended ESL classes at the Pottstown YMCA where she received several awards for proficiency in reading and writing, an accomplishment she was extremely proud of. She enjoyed traveling back to Japan every few years to visit friends and family there. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and shopping at local flea markets and thrift shops.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are her three children, Sandra Nunan Palace of West Hartford, CT, John E. Nunan of Denver, CO and Robert A. “Tony” Nunan of Tokyo, Japan; sisters-in-law Sue Harman of Reading, PA, Sally Metz and Eleanor Nunan of Perkiomenville, PA, and Faith Geiger of Gilbertsville, PA. She will be forever cherished and remembered as “Bachan” by her six grandchildren Elizabeth Palace, John-Paul Palace, Sean Ryutaro Suzuta-Nunan, Virgil Nunan, Bayard Nunan, and Wesley Nunan; and her three great-grandchildren, Anthony Palace, Jonni Palace and John-Thomas Palace.  She is predeceased by her granddaughter Erin Suzuta Nunan.
