Obituary for Frances Fagan Bonvouloir

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances Fagan Bonvouloir, at the age of 99, on January 21, 2023, in Syracuse, NY. Frances was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Frances was born on June 2, 1923, in her home in West Hartford, CT to the late Joseph F. Fagan Sr. and Mary (Lynch) Fagan. She was predeceased by her loving husband Raoul Bonvouloir and brothers Joseph (Jr) and Lawrence Fagan.

Frances is survived by her five children, Raoul Bonvouloir (Kathy), Anne Bonvouloir Manners (Dave Manners), Damian Bonvouloir (Susan), Noel Bonvouloir (Pamela), Mary Bonvouloir Seidel; her 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all whom she adored.

Frances raised her large family in Beacon, NY and was devoted to the Catholic church. She volunteered with St. John the Evangelist and attended Mass every day. She could always be counted on to keep you on her prayer list. She had a special place in her heart for the Irish and for Native Americans and supported their causes. Once she moved to Syracuse, NY she was an active volunteer at the food pantry at St. Rose of Lima.

Frances was an avid storyteller and enjoyed learning about others around her. Ever proud of her Irish heritage, Fran visited Ireland and loved to talk about your “shoe shoe babies” - an expression she picked up from the Emerald Isle. Fran’s children were often overseas, so that further expanded her travel visiting children and grandchildren in Egypt, Prague, London, and Jordan to name a few. And in the U.S., she loved spending time in Texas and helping in the school system.

Fran and her husband Raoul were avid Michigan Rummy players so one knew to bring their penny jar when visiting. And you better be ready to keep up!  So as her last card has been played, we know Fran would lay down her winning hand and say “And ‘ter’ it is”! We celebrate a life well lived!
