Fernando F. Goncalves, 76, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Maria A. (Castro) Goncalves, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born in Serra de Santo Antonio, Portugal, and was a resident of East Hartford for over 40 years. Fernando was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford and a member of Hartford Portuguese Club, Newington. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Spielmen of North Carolina, Fernando F. Goncalves, Jr. of East Hartford, Mario Goncalves of East Hartford, and Lisa Azinheira and her husband Eliseu of South Windsor; 6 grandchildren, Jonathan Clinton, Amanda Clinton, Kyle Spielman, Joshua Monteiro, Brian Azinheira, Gabriella Goncalves; one great-grandson, Waylon Clinton; a brother and sister-in-law Antonio and Maria Helena Goncalves of Newington; two sisters, Maria de Lurdes and Adelia Sousa and her husband Manuel, all of Portugal; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral procession will be Thursday, ( February 16), at 9:00 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Entombment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Wednesday, (February 15), from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
