Fernanda Figueiredo Melo Cabral, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 19, 2022. She was born on March 29, 1932 in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal. She was the daughter of the late João de Melo and Angelina da Conceição Figueiredo. Fernanda was a founder and member of the Holy Ghost Portuguese Society, Inc. and a devout, prayerful Catholic who believed wholeheartedly in our Lord, Nossa Senhora de Fatima and Nossa Senhora de Monserrate. She was an avid donor to the Catholic community and a strong believer in the power of prayer.
Fernanda was a strong, loving woman who loved her family very much. She was a mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading novels, doing puzzles and watching soccer games and her favorite game shows. She always put others before herself and never missed an opportunity to help someone in need. She loved to share a smile and a laugh with her family, often telling stories about her life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by two sisters, Angelina Cabral and Maria Sousa Costa; one brother, Dadelo Sousa; two daughters, Maria Fatima Sousa and Lucia Maria Ortiz and her husband Daniel Ortiz Sr.; and one son, Antonio Jose Cabral and his wife Sandra Cabral; nine grandchildren, Maria Manuela Figueiredo and her husband Nelson Figueiredo, Eduardo Rodrigues and his wife Anabela Vieira Rodrigues, Carla Rodrigues, Diane Costa and her significant other Mario Vega, Jennifer Cabral Fore and her husband Derico Fore, Cristina Gutierrez, Jason Cabral and his wife Nina Cabral, Jeffrey Costa and his significant other Meghan Church and Angelina Cabral; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Tiffany Figueiredo and her fiance Justin Sousa, Christopher Figueiredo, Luis Vargas, Alexiana and Liana Rodrigues, Mikayla, Terrance and Jermaine Jr. Marshall, Alexander Vega, Genelisse, Madison, Kayleigh, and Jeffrey Jr. Costa, Emilia Tirado, Ezra Fore, Sienna and Chase Cook.
Fernanda is predeceased by her husband, Jose Melo Cabral; two children, Jose Manuel Cabral and Maria Fernanda Costa; her parents; and two brothers, Luis Melo and Manuel de Melo.
