Obituary for Fausto Antunes DaCosta

Fausto Antunes Da Costa, 86, surrounded by his loving family, Fausto passed away peacefully on Sunday April 7, 2019. He now joins his wife of 52 years, Cacilda (Mendes Viegas) Da Costa, who predeceased him on November 30, 2007. Fausto was born on June 26, 1932 in Arcozelo Portugal. He immigrated to Hartford, CT. on August 31, 1968 with his family. Prior to his early retirement he was a construction laborer with various local companies and remained a member of the Connecticut Laborers Union. After retirement, Fausto and his wife enjoyed yearly trips to his beloved birth land of Portugal where they spent the summer months. Holidays were always celebrated back in CT. with family and friends. Fausto could always be found in the vegetable garden, pruning fruit trees, or trimming rose bushes. He enjoyed making and drinking wine, grilling sardines at the beach, watching soccer games, and playing cards always with family and friends, he was a jokester and loved to see everyone happy and smiling. Fausto was a catholic communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Harford. Fausto was a very hard working and smart man with a heart of gold that always put family and God first. He was the very best father and friend to his children: Irene Pantaleao and her husband John of Cromwell, Maria Nazare Sparmer and her husband John of Uncasville, Emilia (Emily) Gil and her husband Joao of Rocky Hill, and his son Jose Manuel Da Costa of Hartford. He was also a great friend and mentor to his grandchildren: Tabitha Dyer and her husband Derek of Waterford, Lisa Plante and her husband Reggie of East Hampton, Jessica Pantaleao of Durham and Ashley Pantaleao of Baltimore MD., Jonathan and Monica Gil of Rocky Hill, and Danielle Marie Sparmer of Uncasville. Fausto will also be greatly missed by his four great-grandchildren Tyler and Marcus Dyer of Boston MA., Marlaina and Mason Dyer of Waterford, and his beloved dog, Prince and cat, “Russa”. Calling hours will take place on Thursday, April 11, from 5 – 8 pm at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Funeral procession will take place on Friday April 12, at 9 am from the funeral home to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a 10 am Catholic mass, followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.
