Obituary for Elizabeth DeMaio
Elizabeth DeMaio, 95, of Hartford, died peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Affectionately known as “Aunt Betty,” she was the 10th child of the late Vincent and Maria (Rabasco) DeMaio. She was born in the family home on August 13, 1922 and lived in that house for 95 years until devoting the last several months of her life caring for her special niece Patricia DeMaio Russo.
In addition to her parents, Vincent and Maria, Elizabeth was predeceased by her siblings, Anthony, Rose, Jennie, William, Angeline, Michael, Lucy, Teresa, Raymond and Frankie. She was the beloved second mother to all of her many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and countless others lucky enough to have her in their life.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Bulkeley High School and was employed for many years by Dunham
Bush in West Hartford. She was a devoted communicant of St. Peter Church in Hartford and generously supported the Church community for decades while also frequenting the Barry Square Senior Center. Elizabeth was renowned for her beautiful quilting, ginger snap cookies, raviolis and Easter pizzas. She will be remembered always for her kindness and young heart.
Calling hours will be held at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. The funeral procession will be Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian burial at Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield, CT. at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT.
