Elizabeth “Betty” “Betty-Kay” (Cunningham) Callahan, 84, of West Hartford, loving wife of Edward D. Callahan, passed away on November 9, 2022. Betty was born in Hartford on December 23, 1937, the only child of the late Thomas F. and Helen (Hilliard) Cunningham. She graduated from St. Augustine’s School, Mt. St. Joseph Academy and with honors from St. Joseph College (now University of St. Joseph), where she was elected class President in her Junior and Senior years. After college, she worked for several years at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company as a contract writer. In 1961, she married Ed whom she first met in high school and together they raised three wonderful children. When the children were older, she returned to employment, first as a Paraprofessional for the West Hartford Department of Education and then for the Town of West Hartford, where she worked in Financial Services, retiring as Deputy Collector of Revenue. In addition to her husband Ed, she is survived by her children, Kathleen McCarthy and her husband, Patrick, of Middle Village, New York, Daniel Callahan of Newport Beach, California and Thomas Callahan and his wife, Shauna, of Boulder, Colorado. Also surviving her are the great blessings of her life, her beautiful grandchildren, Patrick McCarthy and Grace and Evan Callahan.

Calling hours will be Sunday, (November 13) from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. The funeral procession will be Monday, (November 14) at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Mark the Evangelist Church, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Fairview Cemetery will follow.
