Obituary for Elaine Dalton (Kilty)

Elaine Kilty Dalton, 86, of West Hartford, CT was brought home by the Lord on Saturday, July 18, 2020 in Westborough, MA surrounded by her family. She was blessed with a religious upbringing which she carried through to all aspects of her life. She will always be remembered for her love and devotion to God and her family. Elaine lost her husband, Dr. George R. Dalton on November 25, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and friend. Elaine was born on August 4, 1933 and raised in East Hartford to the late John and Catherine Kilty. Elaine was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She started her career as a Registered Nurse at Saint Francis Hospital where she met the love of her life, Dr. George R. Dalton. She continued her nursing career in Washington, D.C. before returning to Connecticut where she raised nine children while George launched his very successful Pediatric/Allergy private practice in the South End of Hartford. After raising her children, Elaine returned to her nursing career at St. Mary’s Home in West Hartford and became very active in the St. Francis Women's Auxiliary. Here, she was a Board Member for Miracles and became a lifelong volunteer.

Elaine was a woman of many talents. She had a gift for creating beautiful flower arrangements, especially for events such as the St. Frances Miracles Gala and enjoyed tap dancing with “The Sophisticated Ladies”. Many great memories were made camping and skiing with her family, as well as traveling with her husband, George and close friends to Peru, Egypt, Ireland, Africa, Galapagos Island, and many other wonderful places around the globe. Elaine was the proud mother of nine children and grandmother of thirteen. She was very involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities from music and sporting events to confirmations and graduations. Elaine was known for her style, elegance and class and her sense of humor. Her warm smile and contagious laugh would light up the room. Elaine was always up for an adventure and not one to sit. She would do anything for anyone. She also enjoyedspending time with family, friends and her beloved dog, Ranger at the beach and especially enjoyed the evenings watching the sunsets!

Elaine leaves her children, George M. Dalton of West Hartford; Kathleen Dalton of West Hartford; Kevin Dalton and wife Blair of West Hartford and their children Meghan, Christopher, Trevor and Shannon; Patricia Dalton McElligott and husband Com. (R) Michael McElligott of Westborough, MA and their children Jennifer of Watertown, MA, 1st LT Michael McElligott of Westborough, MA, 1st LT Matthew McElligott of Watertown, MA and 2nd LT Shawn McElligott of Fort Irwin, CA; Brian Dalton and wife Joanie of San Diego, CA; Carol Dalton of Southport, CT and her daughter Kaily Elaine Dalton; Michael Dalton and wife Kimberly of West Hartford and their children Benjamin and John Clark; Jennifer Dalton Antonia and husband Col. (R) Bruce Antonia of Colorado Springs, CO and their children Luke and Jake; her sister Marion Kilty Gleason and her sister-in-law, Olun Kilty. She also had many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her late husband Dr. George R Dalton, daughter Mary E. Dalton, her brothers Col. (R) Jack Kilty, Dr. Daniel Kilty, and Dr. William Kilty; In-laws, Peter and Teen Dalton, Dr. Michael and Marion Sponzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrate her life on Friday July 24th at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford, CT 06117. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Elaine’s name to the Women’s Auxiliary of Saint Francis Hospital, 114 Woodland St, Hartford, CT 06105.
