Obituary for Edward R. Jacovino

Edward “Ed” Robert Jacovino, 92, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2023, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born January 30, 1931 in Waterbury, son of the late Joseph “Nick” and Anna (DiLeo) Jacovino. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School in Waterbury. He proudly served his country in the Korean War in the Air Force 2157th Air Rescue Squad as a Radio Repairman. Upon his return from Korea, he attended Quinnipiac College and became a Draftsman working for many of Connecticut's defense industry suppliers. He settled in West Hartford and lived there most of his life.

Belovedly known as "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ed was a loving family man who enjoyed hosting family gatherings with his wife, Shirley Jacovino. He greeted everyone with a gregarious "Whaddya say?" He knew how to tell a story and relished any opportunity to share his life experiences. He enjoyed travel and time at beaches with family in Connecticut and Rhode Island. He was a tinkerer and would hardwire a fan to a treadmill when there wasn't a free outlet or use a screwdriver to short circuit his lawnmower when the choke stopped working. He was an avid fan of the UConn women's basketball team and the New York Giants.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Shirley; his daughter, Elizabeth Jacovino and wife Denise Appel; his son, Edward Jacovino and wife Maria; his stepdaughters, Elizabeth Visconti and Jennifer Goddard; his grandsons, Edward Jacovino Jr. and wife Elizabeth Porter, Michael Jacovino and wife Claire, and Jeremy Goddard; his great-grandchildren, Emily, Liam, Theodore, Cameron and Peter. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and their children. He was predeceased by his siblings, Cpl. Angelo Jacovino who was killed in combat while serving his country in WWII, Joseph Jacovino, Christine Jacovino and Marie Ciarlo. His first wife, Ann Jacovino, also predeceased him.

Calling hours are Monday, November 13, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Ed’s burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations are made to the Alzheimer's Association of Connecticut. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
