Obituary for Dolores "Lory" Jenks (Anthony)

Dolores "Lory" Anthony Jenks, 96, a resident of Hartford for over 60 years, devoted wife of the late William A. Jenks for 52 years, passed away on May 21, 2021 at Avery Heights in Hartford. Born in Norwood MA. on June 8, 1924 to Olney Potter Anthony, Sr. and Mabel Jacobs Anthony, the youngest of five. Lory grew up in Norwood and continued to reside there until Aug. 1957 when she and her family moved to Hartford.

Lory stayed home to raise her four children until her youngest child was in High School and worked at The Travelers Ins. Co. for many year until her retirement. Lory was an active member of Broadview Community Church, Hartford, from 1957 until her passing. Lory participated in the church choir, the bell choir, Study Group, and other women's clubs. Lory loved to read, especially non-fiction, history, biographies, the Reader's Digest, and Yankee Magazine. She was so well read and informed that her family would frequently, instead of using Google for information, would say " ask Gramma, she'll know". She enjoyed playing Password, Scrabble and UpWords with family and friends and was always working a crossword puzzle. Jeopardy and CT. Public TV were her favorite programs to watch besides the news. Lory was always aware of world events but kept most of her opinions private. A self acclaimed " introvert", she enjoyed her alone time as well as spending time with family. Lory and Bill had season tickets to The Hartford Stage and the Hartford Symphony for many years, until Bill's passing in 1996 at the age of 79. Lory also enjoyed world travel with her sister Ellie. While living in the cottages at Avery, Lory participated in groups and enjoyed many years of volunteering at The Heights gift shop.

Lory leaves behind daughters Allison (John )Skibba of Mil. Wisc, Susan (Mark)Snyder of West Htfd CT, son Jeffrey Jenks of New Sharon, ME., and was predeceased by son Randall (Cathy) Jenks, in 2003. Grandchildren, Chris Walker, Jacob Skibba, Katie Hartter, Elisabeth Skibba, Matthew Jenks, Vallerie Davis, Reed Jenks, David, Amanda and Owen Snyder, and 13 great-grandchildren.
