Obituary for Debra Ann Garza

Debra Ann Garza, born May 30, 1960 in Hermosa Beach, California, passed away suddenly on December 28, 2021 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut after a very courageous battle with chronic health issues. She is survived by her children Micaela Rena Eckett and Nicolas Garza Eckett of West Hartford. She is also survived by five siblings: Roque Garza, Nicolas Garza, and Rena Garza of Los Angeles, California; Rita Garza and Cindy Garza of Bristol, Connecticut. She is also survived by many incredibly kind extended family members.

Debra worked in the IT field for 25 years in California before taking on the most important, challenging, and rewarding position of raising her children in Connecticut. She spent those years pursuing her life-long artistic passion in any way that she could: photography, painting, cooking, comedy, gardening, film critiquing, and most importantly, dance. During her final years, she became certified as a paralegal.

Debra was the life of the party on any day, at any place. She had a huge heart and tons of empathy. She knew the way to make anyone smile, even on their worst of days. She was shy to strangers, but once she opened up she became an absolute goofball. To many of those who knew her, she was one of the most inspirational women in the world. And despite her kids’ beliefs, mother always knew best.

Debra will always be remembered for her remarkable strength in overcoming the many adversities she faced, her gentle love and fierce protection of her children, and her sparkling personality that uplifted all who knew her.
