Obituary for Clive B. Lake

Clive Bronson Lake passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the age of 85. After several months of declining health, Clive died peacefully at home with family by his side.

Born in Clarendon Parish, Jamaica, Clive was the son of the late Boysie Lake and Naomi Riley. The second of eight children, Clive didn’t have the opportunity for much formal education. He helped out on his family’s small farm, selling produce at Frankfield Market in Clarendon and working any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. He received training in the stone masonry trade as a young man in Jamaica. In 1961 he took the opportunity to immigrate to England. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to become skilled in the trade of welding. Moving to the United States in 1975, he continued in this field at Shepherd Steel until he became a construction worker. After his retirement from the Daycon Construction Company, Clive enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also was an active member at Faith Bible Church in Plainville, CT where he served as an elder for 7 years.

Clive loved singing, taking day trips, doing word puzzles, and reading and watching documentaries. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he enjoyed helping others complete projects and achieve their goals. Clive always wished everyone “All the very best!”. He will be dearly missed.

Clive is survived by his brothers Winston and Donald Thompson; sisters Phyllis and Evet Thompson; son Michael Lake and his wife, Mislal (Andom) Lake, their children Aaron and Yohannes; daughter Sharon (Lake) Masayda and her husband Edward Masayda, their children Lauren, Justin and Nadine; many special nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Clive was predeceased by his brother George Dyke and sisters Jane and Olive Thompson.

The family wishes to particularly thank Bristol Hospice team members Katie Kileen, BSN, RN and Rhonda Monahan for the compassionate care they gave to Clive at the end of his life. A private funeral service was held at the convenience of the family. Donations in Clive’s memory may be made to Faith Bible Church, 168 Unionville Avenue, Plainville, CT 06062.
