Obituary for Cecilia Walsh Johnson
Cecilia “Ceil” Johnson (née Walsh), of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully on January 28, 2021. One of seven siblings, Ceil was born June 4, 1926, in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston, MA, to John and Cecilia Walsh.
Ceil was employed at John Hancock Insurance in Boston before moving to West Hartford, CT with her first husband Bernard “Bernie” Walsh, who served as health inspector for the town. Newly relocated, she first worked at Connecticut Bank & Trust until their son “Jay” was born. After Bernie’s passing, Ceil was employed at D&R Johnson Construction where she worked until her retirement. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, a good book, and her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels.
Ceil was a loving wife and devoted mother, a friend always quick with a smile and as quick to share a hug and a home-cooked meal. A devout Catholic, she was a faithful communicant of St. Peter Claver Church. Ceil is survived by her son John “Jay” Walsh, to whom she lovingly devoted much of her time, her sisters Mary Stella of Foxborough, MA and Theresa Meeken of East Falmouth, MA, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Doug Johnson, her sister Helen Hunsicker, and three brothers, Thomas, William, and John Walsh.
Ceil’s enduring Boston accent and infectious smile will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 10:00am in St. Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford, CT 06107. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
