Obituary for Carolyn Pendel (Storm)

Carolyn Storm Pendel, 91, passed away February 17, at Touchpoints of Farmington after a brief hospitalization. Born in Watertown, NY, in 1929 to Clarence Storm and Mabel George, she grew up in West Hartford and graduated from Hall High School class of 1947 and Hartford College for Women in1949.

In 1956 she married David Pendel and they lived in San Francisco where she had her first child, a son, Thomas. She returned to Hartford for the birth of a daughter and to be near family.

Carolyn loved to travel and to teach travel programs. She was a certified travel counselor and managed several local agencies. She enjoyed helping clients with their travel plans and was a stickler for details and service. She created and taught the travel agent consultant program at Briarwood College in Southington in the 1970s and was an instructor at the Atlantic School in Hartford.

She retired from Sanditz Travel in West Hartford. She was with World Travel Partners/BTI America in Hartford and she had long been associated with Kenney Travel in WH center. Her early career was with American Airlines in ticketing and reservations.

Carolyn lived to travel and was fulfilled by helping clients plan trips. She also loved teaching and spending time with students. She especially loved teaching geography. Her home was full of mementos of her travel career and she took pride in her ability to solve travel snafus.

Carolyn was predeceased by her son and her husband. She is survived by her daughter and grandchildren. A special thank you to caregiver Paul Frederick for his long-time service to Carolyn and David.

A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery. Donations in her name can be sent to West Hartford Library Foundation, 20 South Main Street, WH CT 06107 where she was a devoted patron. Online condolences may be made at www.SheehanHilbornBreen.com
