Obituary for Carmel Martin

Carmel Martin, beloved husband of 50 years to Pauline (Cyr) Martin passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on December 27, 2020. Born September 25, 1941, in St. Basile, New Brunswick, Canada. Son of the late Pierre and Laura Martin. Carmel and Pauline called West Hartford home since 1975 and he became a friend to many within the community. Carmel was a communicant of St. Mark Evangelist Church and always greeted parishioners with a warm and kind smile. He was also a proud 3rd and 4thdegree member of the Knights of Columbus who participated in many of their activities over the years. Carmel served in the U.S. Army and in Korea.

He retired as a machinist at Pep Tool after 30 years. Even after retiring, Carmel continued to keep busy with landscaping and caring for his neighbor’s driveways all season long. In his free time Carmel enjoyed bowling, playing cards with friends, watching hockey and listening to his music on the porch swing. Anyone who knew Carmel would say he was hard-working, kind, sweet natured and loved by many.

Carmel is survived by his cherished son Kevin Martin and his wife Lisa of Columbus, Ohio, grandchildren Hannah Martin and Ryan Martin both of Westbrook, CT, step grandson Riley McGaughey of Columbus, Ohio and Godchild Sarah Calano of East Hartford, CT. Sisters Corinne Chasse of St. David, ME, Jeanne Martin of Quebec. Brothers Rudolphe and Jeanine Martin of Madawaska, ME, Donald and Rolande Martin of Edmundston, NB, Berthier and Martine Martin of St. Joseph, NB. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carmel is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Arthur Martin, Alphee Martin, Guy Martin and Rino Martin, and his sisters Rena Conkling, Rita Fleury and Laurette Martin.

Carmel will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
