Carlos A. DeMelo of Windsor, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the age of 69.
Son of the late Jose and Deolinda DeMelo Mendonca, he was born on November 4, 1953 in Sao Miguel Azores, Portugal. Carlos immigrated with his family to the United States in 1967. Settling in Hartford, he later met his wife, Maria da Conceicao Oliveira. The couple wed in 1975 and soon started a family. Carlos was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford.
Carlos worked as a machinist at Jacobs Vehicle Systems in Bloomfield, retiring at the age of 66, after over 40 years with the company. He was a respected mentor who enjoyed his job and made many friends along the way.
Carlos had a passion for gardening and would often be found working in his yard and garden. Carlos also enjoyed spending time at the beach, fishing was one of his favorite ways to pass the time.
Family was truly the center of his life. Carlos spent much of his time with family and friends. He was a very social person who was always up for good conversation and a glass of wine. His cheerful personality will be missed by so many.
Carlos is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maria Conceicao, and their three children, Danny DeMelo and his partner Crystal of Port St. Lucie, FL, Sandy Roy and her husband Kevin of Windsor and Steve DeMelo of Windsor Locks. He will be dearly missed by his beloved grandchildren Kailie and Patric DeMelo and Breanna, Hayden, Trevor, Eli, Piper and Jace Roy. He is also survived by his siblings, Maria Fatima Marques of West Hartford, Maria Mendonca and her husband Manuel of Newington, Irene Mendonca of New Britain, Maria Luz Marques and her husband Joaquim of South Windsor, Jose Melo and his wife Margaret of Vernon, John Mendonca of Florida and Leonora Rainha and her husband Joe of Glastonbury, as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his beloved parents, Carlos was predeceased by his granddaughter, Sadie Bea Roy.
Visitation will be at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave, West Hartford on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 5pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St, Hartford at 10am on Friday, March 24, 2023. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford.
