Obituary for Bernice "Be" Guthrie (LeBlanc)

Bernice "Be" (LeBlanc) Guthrie, 92, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully in her home in Southington on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on October 18, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Emma LeBlanc. Be was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph F. Guthrie. She graduated from Hall High School in West Hartford in 1940. Following her employment at Colts Firearms Mfg. Co., she served in the Navy Waves during WWII with a rank of SKI from 1944 to 1946. Be was extremely proud of her military service in Washington D.C. and was decorated with American Campaign and World War II Victory Medals. After starting a family, she pursued a banking career for more the 25 years with Hartford National Bank where she held managerial positions at various branch locations until her retirement in 1983. Be is survived by her two sons, Kevin Guthrie and his wife Roberta of East Longmeadow, MA, Michael Guthrie and his wife Leslie of Rockport, MA and two grandchildren, Ryan Guthrie and Brendan Guthrie. She is also survived by three brothers, Leo LeBlanc and his wife Norma, Roger LeBlanc and George LeBlanc and many nieces and nephews. Be was predeceased by her brother Alonzo and her sisters Alfreida and Terry. Calling hours will be Saturday, February 28 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. Brigid Church, 1088 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
